19th Hole Spotlight: Toasted Tee at Wachesaw Plantation East

We all come for the golf but at some courses the experience extends beyond fairways and greens, and Wachesaw Plantation East is certainly one of those facilities.

The layout has hosted four LPGA events – hall of famer Karrie Webb was a two-time winner on the course – and it’s worth the time to enjoy the memorabilia (make sure you get a look at Meg Mallon’s scorecard from the day she shot a course record 62!). But Wachesaw East is also home to a restaurant and outdoor bar that are among the area’s best.

Toasted Tee, which opened in 2015, is one of Myrtle Beach’s best clubhouse restaurants (if you don’t believe us, ask the locals who regularly help fill the place) and should be part of your plans after a round at the Clyde Johnston design.

Located just steps from the golf course, the Toasted Tee includes a fully stocked bar and delivers an eclectic menu, highlighted by the Cuban Sandwich. The signature dish features honey braised pork shoulder, ham, Swiss cheese and dill pickles served on bread that is delivered fresh from a Cuban bakery in Tampa, Fla. It’s even better than it sounds.

The menu has a little bit of everything, including five different hot dogs (the days of getting a nondescript dog at the turn are over!), Buffalo chicken and even vegetarian fare for the more health conscious among us.

As appealing as the food sounds, it’s only part of what makes the Toasted Tee so attractive. A sprawling patio on the back of the clubhouse has an outside bar, water features and pergolas. The patio overlooks the 10th hole and one of Myrtle Beach’s largest driving ranges, a perfect setting to relive your round.

Wachesaw Plantation East has hosted the world’s best women’s players, and your group would be well served to spend time on the first tee and in the Toasted Tee on your next trip.
