In this Season 1 segment from “The Charlie Rymer Golf Show” as seen on CBS Sports Network, the host is back at Caledonia – but he forgot his clubs! So to bide the time, he’s surprising some of Caledonia’s guests with some “Ambush Trivia.” See how they do!
Charlie Rymer:
Now I’m headed to the course, but I forgot my clubs. I guess I’ll just have to make friends, and I think I know how to do that.
Time now for Ambush Trivia. I’m at the spectacular Caledonia Golf and Fish Club, and there are some unsuspecting golfers out on the course right now that are about to have a chance to win a little heh, heh, heh, heh.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
Hello ladies.
Speaker 2:
Hi.
Charlie Rymer:
How y’all doing?
Speaker 2:
Pretty good.
Charlie Rymer:
Are you ready to play some trivia?
Speaker 2:
Absolutely.
Charlie Rymer:
Come on up here. Let’s play. I’ve got five questions for you ladies. You got to get four out of the five to win the prize, okay?
Speaker 2:
Okay.
Charlie Rymer:
Now this can be a group effort.
Speaker 2:
Okay?
Charlie Rymer:
So what is the term used to describe someone when they have won all four of the men’s major championships in one year? What do you call that when they have won that?
Speaker 2:
Grand slam?
Charlie Rymer:
Yes, ma’am. Winner. Winner. Okay. You just got to get three more right. Okay. Who won the 2020 US Open Men? Played later in the season than it normally was?
Speaker 4:
What is his name? DeChambeau.
Speaker 3:
DeChambeau.
Charlie Rymer:
DeChambeau. You got it. You guys are on a roll right here. Okay. So Men’s Golf has four major championships. How many major championships does the LPGA have?
Speaker 3:
Ooh. Oh boy.
Well, they have-
Speaker 4:
They have their own open.
Speaker 2:
Two. It might be two.
Charlie Rymer:
Actually, they have five.
Speaker 2:
Oh.
Speaker 4:
Oh.
Charlie Rymer:
How about that? Now that puts y’all behind the eight ball here. Okay?
Speaker 4:
We have to get this one.
Charlie Rymer:
Okay. This is a yes/no. Okay. Is golf an Olympic sport, yes or no?
Speaker 3:
Yes.
Speaker 4:
Yes.
Charlie Rymer:
Very good answer. It actually came back in 2016 at Rio. Prior to that, we had played the Olympics out in St. Louis about a hundred years ago, so it’s nice to have it back.
Okay. In 1895, this is for the Men’s US Open, the cash prize for the winner? This is multiple choice. Was it $150, less than $150, or more than $150?
Speaker 2:
Can we confer?
Charlie Rymer:
Sure. By all means.
Speaker 2:
Well, I think that-
Speaker 4:
Yeah. Okay.
Charlie Rymer:
Final answer?
Speaker 2:
Less than $150.
Charlie Rymer:
Oh.
Speaker 2:
Oh, no.
Charlie Rymer:
No.
Speaker 4:
It was a hundred and fifty.
Speaker 2:
What was it?
Charlie Rymer:
It was $150.
Speaker 3:
Oh, okay. That was the first one.
Charlie Rymer:
How about that? But do you guys know what I’m notorious for?
Speaker 3:
I’m being kind and generous.
Charlie Rymer:
Giving prizes anyway.
Speaker 2:
Sweet, sweet, sweet.
Charlie Rymer:
Have a nice day, ladies. I love making everyone a winner. Stick around.
