Casual Round for Golf Academy of America Students Turns Into Brush With Greatness with PGA TOUR Star Dustin Johnson
A simple round of golf on April 18 at TPC Myrtle Beach turned into the moment of a lifetime for four students from the local Golf Academy of America. The foursome was playing the back nine at the golf course and when they arrived at the No. 17 tee, they saw something none of them had ever seen before, or will ever forget. Standing on the tee was one of the top professional golfers in the world, PGA TOUR star Dustin Johnson.
Johnson was in the midst of shooting a television commercial to promote golf in Myrtle Beach when Golf Academy of America students Skylar O’Dell, Daniel Bisazza, Eric Dutcher and Alex Matsias wanted to play through. In fact, the students challenged the 12th ranked player in the world to a closest-to-the pin contest on the 193-yards par 3 signature hole. As expected, the challenge did not go well for the aspiring golf professionals, but it was a brush with greatness and a lasting memory for all.
“Meeting Dustin Johnson and having a chance to tee it up with him was the surprise of a lifetime,” said O’Dell. “We were out to play a round of golf one more time before we all graduated and went our separate ways. What a cool experience for all of us and what a great way to conclude our Myrtle Beach golf education.”
