Course Profile: Tradition Golf Club

Tradition Golf Club is set amid the rolling terrain of a 16th Century rice plantation, a Ron Garl course designed inspired by great designs from around the world.

Test your power on Tradition’s large landing areas that allow for taking healthy hacks off the tee, and your accuracy against well-guarded greens that require precise shot making. Combined with exceptional beauty, Tradition is a course that is as enjoyable to play as it is challenging.

Your mettle is tested right away at Hole No. 2. Measuring a healthy 201 yards from the back markers, this hole seems to hide its difficulty with beautiful heather grass that turns quickly into a sandy beach. The sand continues the length of the hole and guards the entire left side. Nearly the entire green slopes right and provides a challenging target, and any ball hit left of center will need extra length to carry the water and a voluminous bunker.

The fun kicks up a notch at the very next hole, playing a mere 329 yards from the tips and inviting you to go for the green with a long drive. But be warned, an errant ball anywhere to the right or short will be devoured by a lengthy bunker guarding the right side. The semicircular green is crowned on the left-hand side, and will provide plenty of drama should your drive find the putting surface.

A dramatic finale to your round at Tradition comes at No. 18, one of the course’s longest par fours weighing in at a hefty 455 yards. An ideal drive here will travel down the right side, providing the best angle into the green and ample breathing room from the twisting waste bunker flanking the left side. A par save here is a great way to conclude your round.

This spring, brand-new Sunday bermudagrass greens will greet you for what promises to be a memorable round on your trip itinerary. Next time you visit the Hammock Coast Golf Trail, make sure Tradition Golf Club is on your must-play list!
