Course Spotlight: Blackmoor Golf Club

As one of the game’s greats, whose expertise has extended beyond playing and teaching, Gary Player has displayed the same passion for golf course design that he’s exhibited in every other aspect of his life. That’s never been more evident than in his only Grand Strand signature design at Blackmoor Golf Club.

With Blackmoor, Player chose to build on the historic site of one of the South’s most fabled 19th Century rice plantations, situated along the banks of the scenic Waccamaw River in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina.

At Blackmoor, Player combines a deep love for Scottish golf with a picturesque location and the desire to create one of Myrtle Beach’s most playable, yet challenging courses. Following a simple design philosophy he has crafted a visual masterpiece, one that exudes the charm of the Scottish game and displays a keen sense of competitive spirit.

Player’s Blackmoor design presents a wide range of interesting options to tempt us to be creative with our shot-making. The course allows every caliber of golfer to reap the most important rewards of the game, while being as daring or conservative as your mood strikes.

The vision that Gary Player had for Blackmoor is evident in its success as a beautifully maintained, thoughtfully run, service-oriented golf course – a reputation that was solidified in 2001 when it was named Golf Course of the Year by the Myrtle Beach Golf Course Owners Association.

Be sure to include Blackmoor in your next Hammock Coast Golf Trail getaway.
