This April, Charleston Airport launches direct routes to and from London, gateway to the rest of the world
Beginning April 4, British Airways will fly nonstop between Charleston, South Carolina and London, England. The Thursday / Sunday route is Charleston’s first transatlantic flight, and will be serviced by the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the exact plane built next door at Boeing South Carolina.
Just a short two-hour ride away from the Grand Strand and less than 90 minutes to the South Strand, this new flight provides an entirely new gateway for those travelling to the Myrtle Beach area from Europe to play golf, with the special added advantage of avoiding more congested major American connection hubs like Charlotte and Atlanta. This new development means that getting from your European destination to the spectacular golf awaiting along the Hammock Coast Golf Trail is now easier, and most importantly, faster than ever before.
With 12 of the best golf courses the area has to offer, the Hammock Coast Golf Trail provides coastal golf at its very best, with award-winning courses designed by the most brilliant golf course architects to ever do it. A Gary Player design, Blackmoor Golf Club in Murrells Inlet embodies the spirit and style of “The Man in Black,” with many risk-reward par 4s and 5s that give players multiple options for how to navigate them. The course’s signature hole, the short par-4 8th, has a split fairway, forcing players to decide whether to shoot a gap in the trees to go for the green or to lay up safely out into the left fairway.
True Blue Golf Club in Pawleys Island is consistently ranked one of the best courses on the Strand and it is easy to see why. Designed by the late, great Mike Strantz, this links-style creation showcases the natural beauty of the South Carolina Lowcountry as well as any around. The design is highly playable for golfers of all skill levels, with a wide-open design concept and ginormous, undulating greens.
River Club, also located in Pawleys Island, is a challenging design with many iconic holes, including the par-5 18th, one of the better risk-reward par 5s in the entire country. The hole is easily reachable in two for better players but requires a highly risky tee shot forcing a carry of about 240 yards entirely over water. If your drive is successful, you will have only a mid-iron in for your second shot. Eagle time!
