Great courses are not hard to find on the Hammock Coast Golf Trail. Play any course on The Trail and you are guaranteed to have an enjoyable experience. To that note, Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, is among the best courses in the area and is a must-play if you’re visiting the Hammock Coast.

Caledonia was the first solo design by the late Mike Strantz, who also designed sister course True Blue Golf Club. Strantz’s masterpiece inspires awe from the very moment you pull into Caledonia and see the half-mile tunnel of oaks lining the entry way draped with Spanish moss. At the conclusion of that scenic drive sits a spectacularly designed antebellum-style clubhouse.

Along with the picturesque natural scenery that surrounds the course, Caledonia’s beauty lies inside the ropes as well. The course is no stranger to awards, having been named as one of Golf Magazine’s “Top 100 You Can Play”, Golfweek’s “Best Resort Courses” and Golf Digest’s “Top 100 Public Courses.”

The par 70 course plays 6,526 yards and is highlighted by its signature hole – No. 18. The 18th is a masterfully designed finishing hole with marsh water in play down the right side and the clubhouse balcony overlooking the green. What makes the hole truly unique is the atmosphere of the clubhouse – where often times you will get groups of golfers who have already finished their round enjoying some drinks while cheering and watching golfers on 18. Success on 18 leads to a joyful ending to any round.

While the course provides a memorable golf round, what distinguishes Caledonia is the service and friendliness from its staff. The club is a public course, but you wouldn’t know it by the way the staff treats visiting golfers. This friendliness extends into the bar and grill, where many locals come to enjoy meals because of the quality of food and service.
