Golfweek’s Alex Myers has named the heart of the Hammock Coast Golf Trail, Pawleys Island, S.C., as one of his five selections for “sneaky-good buddies trip destinations.”
In a quarter century of taking buddies trips, Myers’ travel group has focused heavily on destinations that are especially conducive to a five-day, four-night getaway, and worthy of multiple return visits. Pawleys Island was the first of his five destinations highlighted, followed by Verona, N.Y.; Pinehurst, N.C.; Williamsburgh, Va.; and French Lick, Ind.
Of his first destination in the spotlight, Myers writes of Pawleys Island:
“You can stay in this area away from Myrtle Beach’s hustle and bustle (45 minutes south of Myrtle’s airport) and be completely satisfied …
“The anchors to this trip are two Mike Strantz gems in Caledonia and True Blue … Throw in the Jack Nicklaus-designed Pawleys Plantation, which was recently renovated, and you’ve got a great Big Three to base a trip around.”
