Pawleys Plantation Golf & Country Club, the Hammock Coast Golf Trail’s signature design from the legendary Jack Nicklaus, has been named by the Myrtle Beach Area Golf Course Owners Association (MBAGCOA) as its 2024 Golf Course of the Year.
A favorite of visiting golfers since its opening in 1988, Pawleys Plantation recently completed a major renovation that included the resurfacing of its greens with TifEagle Bermudagrass and reclaiming more than 40,000 square feet of putting surface; significant bunker reconfiguration to enhance course playability; and a major clubhouse renovation that featured the unveiling of Palmetto Jack’s as its new pre- and post-round dining and cocktail lounge.
The MBAGCOA evaluates Golf Course of the Year nominees on four criteria: exceptional quality of the golf course, exceptional quality of the ownership and management, outstanding contribution to the community, and significant contribution to the game. By virtue of winning the award, Pawleys Plantation becomes a candidate for state and potentially national honors.
Pawleys Plantation succeeds Rivers Edge as the MBAGCOA Course of the Year. The National Golf Course Owners Association implemented the award in 1996 and the MBAGCOA has since nominated courses from the Myrtle Beach area.
Past recipients of the award include fellow Hammock Coast Golf Trail courses TPC Myrtle Beach (2019 and 2005), Litchfield Country Club (2016), Founders Club at Pawleys Island (2011), Wachesaw Plantation East (2007), Blackmoor (2001), and Tradition Golf Club (2000).
