Six Hammock Coast Golf Trail Courses Named “Best You Can Play” by the South Carolina Golf Course Ratings

Six Hammock Coast Golf Trail courses have been named to the “Best You Can Play” list as determined on by the South Carolina Golf Course Ratings Panel. The biennial list also rated Caledonia Golf & Fish Club as the best course in the Grand Strand region. The other Waccamaw Trail golf courses making the “Best You Can Play” list include: Founders Club of Pawleys Island; Pawleys Plantation Golf and Country Club; The Heritage Club; TPC Myrtle Beach; and True Blue Plantation. The results of the “Best You Can Play” list were announced at a dinner reception at the Surf Golf & Beach Club in Myrtle Beach on March 27.

“Almost half of the sixteen golf courses included on this list are located along the Hammock Coast Golf Trail,” said John Rusher, executive director of the organization. “The golf courses on the Trail are second to none and all of them are rated 4-stars, or better. The Hammock Coast region that extends from Murrells Inlet to Georgetown boasts some of the best golf courses in the state and this list merely confirms it. Aside from great golf here, there is great shopping, dining and family-friendly fun makes for the perfect vacation getaway.”

The “Best You Can Play” list rates the best golf courses available for public play across the state of South Carolina and categorizes them geographically by four regions: Upstate, Midlands, Lowcountry and Grand Strand. Of the 31 courses named to the list by the S.C. Golf Course Ratings Panel, 27 are located in the tourist meccas along the coast – Hilton Head, Charleston and the Myrtle Beach area.

The South Carolina Golf Course Ratings Panel is composed of 125 golf enthusiasts representing a diverse range of occupations, handicaps and backgrounds. The panel’s objective is to promote excellence in the state’s golf course design and operations through competitive rankings, education and public advocacy. The “Best You Can Play” list publishes in odd-numbered years with every resort, public access, and daily fee course eligible for this elite listing.

The panelists determine their ratings by considering several criteria when they review golf courses including: Routing, Variety, Strategy, Equity, Memorability, Aesthetics, and Experience. Twenty-five percent of the panel represents the four geographic regions of the state, and twenty percent of the panelists are women.

The Hammock Coast Golf Trail is comprised of 12 championship golf courses and includes: Caledonia Golf & Fish Club; True Blue Plantation; TPC Myrtle Beach; Pawleys Plantation; River Club; Willbrook Plantation; Blackmoor Golf Club; Litchfield Country Club; Tradition Club; Wachesaw Plantation East; and Heritage Club.
