Three holes you’ll love when you play Founders Club at Pawleys Island

Iconic holes are a huge part of the Hammock Coast Golf Trail experience, and as with every course you play, you’ll be challenged and captivated by some truly memorable hole layouts and design features. Take, for example, Founders Club at Pawleys Island, one of 12 courses along the Trail that is sure to leave a lasting impression on you and your group. Here are three holes to savor when you hit up Founders Club this spring:

No. 3 at Founders Club, fittingly, is a par 3 measuring 190 yards (all yardages back tees). The hole requires a shot over water with a mid- to long-iron tee shot and encapsulates several of the course’s defining characteristics: sand, undulating greens and water. For a par 3, there can be so many different challenges here, with upper and lower tee boxes and numerous potential pin placements depending on what maintenance practices are that day. It’s a shot over water, and one that is very visually attractive, to boot. It’s just an excellent, well-designed par 3.

No. 14 is a 449-yard par 4 that doglegs to the right and plays into an elevated green flanked by bunkers, which for the faint of heart devour dreams of par faster than you’ll be able to write down the big number on your scorecard. Your approach shot here is absolutely critical, one of the most important you’ll face all day. Our recommendation? Don’t get too aggressive and be sure to get the ball hole high. It’s a lot easier said than done.

Finally, No. 18 is a par 4 which plays to just 373 yards, and true to all of the courses on the Hammock Coast Golf Trail, Founders Club sends players home with a visual they will remember: an approach shot over water into a green that rests in the shadow of the course’s Lowcountry-style clubhouse. The hole gives players an opportunity for a good score, but it is still as challenging as it is aesthetically beautiful. After players finish their rounds, many bring their beverage of choice onto the clubhouse deck and watch other golfers navigate 18 for themselves. It’s a great way to finish any day during your upcoming golf vacation!
