Video Tip: How Angle of Approach Gets More Yardage Off the Tee

In our latest instructional video, Brad Kirkman of the Dustin Johnson Golf School at TPC Myrtle Beach is here to tell us about how examining the angle of attack can help an amateur gain distance with the driver.
Brad Kirkman:
Let’s examine angle of approach. In the first video, our student basically had a descending angle of approach. In other words, he hit down on the driver. Think about it like an airplane landing. In the second video we examined, our student had an ascending angle of attack. He hit up on the driver. Think about it like a plane taking off. It can make a huge difference in your ability to gain yardage. It can give you a higher launch and lower spin.
Let me suggest you set up for success. Here’s a drill. Simply hold the club on your chest and on your belt. Get in posture, and then try to make the shaft hit your front leg. By doing so, you see the tilt that I’m getting into that’ll give you the ability to hit up on the golf ball.
