Tournament Tested, Visiting Golfer Approved

Of the 12 award-winning designs along the Hammock Coast Golf Trail, several have been home to either high-profile competitions or been spotlighted on popular national television programs.
They include:
TPC Myrtle Beach – Perhaps the most tournament-tested venue along the trail, this Tom Fazio-Lanny Wadkins design kicked off its long string of high-profile tournament completion as host of the 2000 Senior Tour Championship, won that year by Tom Watson. Since making its initial splash, TPC Myrtle Beach has been a longtime home to major college events including the General Jim Hackler Championship and, most recently, the 2019 Southeast Regional of the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship. Since 2016, it’s also showcased many of the world’s top junior players in the Dustin Johnson World Junior Golf Championship.
Caledonia Golf & Fish Club and True Blue Golf Club – As Mike Strantz’ masterpiece sister designs in Pawleys Island, these venues have partnered frequently to host many of the nation’s top high school teams in the Palmetto Championship. The college game’s best have also competed several times at these designs in the Golfweek Program Challenge, a 54-hole event bringing numerous men’s and women’s NCAA Division I programs to the Lowcountry to compete.
Wachesaw Plantation East – Upon its unveiling in the late 1990s, this Clyde Johnson design made an immediate splash by hosting the world’s top women golfers for three consecutive LPGA Tour events: the Susan G. Komen International (1997) and the City of Hope Myrtle Beach Classic (1998-1999). World Golf Hall of Famer Karrie Webb came away with the trophy in the event’s first two years, while fellow Hall of Fame inductee Meg Mallon set a tournament record in 1998 by firing a 10-under-par 62 in the tournament’s first round.
Pawleys Plantation Golf & Country Club – In Golf Channel’s popular 2014 “Big Break Myrtle Beach” competition series, this renowned Jack Nicklaus design was the setting for Episode 7. The course’s dramatic back nine marshland setting was on prominent display for much of the episode’s competition, including the par-3 17th Hole and par-4 18th Hole.
