Hammock Coast Golf Trail Courses Honored by Golfweek as Best Courses You Can Play in South Carolina

hree Hammock Coast Golf Trail golf courses have been ranked among Golfweek’s 2011 “Best Courses You Can Play” in their annual poll. The three Trail golf courses earning Top 10 honors in South Carolina include: Caledonia Golf & Fish Club (No. 3); True Blue Plantation (No. 7); and TPC Myrtle Beach (No. 8). The 2011 rankings appear in the March 11 issue of the magazine and can be seen online at www.Golfweek.com.
Caledonia Golf & Fish Club and True Blue Plantation, both Mike Strantz-designed sister courses, is located in Pawleys Island, S.C. Golfweek also honored Caledonia Golf & Fish Club as one the Top 100 Best Modern Courses in the United States.
TPC Myrtle Beach, a Tom Fazio-designed course located in Murrells Inlet, S.C., ranks as the only Myrtle Beach area golf course to be awarded a 5-star designation by Golf Digest.
“These honors are a testament to the quality of golf found along the entire Hammock Coast Golf Trail and the Hammock Coast,” said John Rusher, executive director of the organization. “All twelve of our golf courses are rated 4-stars, or higher and offer a unique golf experience for everyone. Most of the Trail courses are adorned with 100-year old oak trees with hanging Spanish moss and set in a variety of natural wetlands, or former indigo and rice plantations making the courses equally memorable, challenging and visually-appealing.”
Golfweek’s 2011 “Best Courses” list was determined based on the votes from an expert team of 675 course raters. The raters surveyed more than 2,200 courses in America based on Golfweek’s strict standards of evaluation including ease and intimacy of routing, integrity of design, quality of feature shaping, natural setting and overall land planning among other categories. Raters submitted more than 51,000 votes to create the 2011 Best Courses list.
The Hammock Coast Golf Trail is comprised of 12 championship golf courses and includes: Caledonia Golf & Fish Club; True Blue Plantation; TPC Myrtle Beach; Pawleys Plantation; River Club; Willbrook Plantation; Blackmoor Golf Club; Litchfield Country Club; Tradition Club; Wachesaw Plantation East; and Heritage Club.
