Hundreds of guests filled the dining hall at Pawleys Plantation Nov. 9 for the Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce’s centennial celebration.

The event also served as the Chamber’s annual awards banquet where several local businesses were honored for the their contributions to the community. And Town of Pawleys Island Mayor Bill Otis received the Lifetime of Leadership Award. Otis served as mayor of the beachside community for 20 years before deciding not to run for re-election this year.

The Georgetown Chamber was incorporated in 1917 with the state of South Carolina, and 2017 has been a year-long celebration for the organization dedicated to promoting and connecting businesses in the county. Chamber President Beth Stedman said the event was not just to celebrate the past, but also to look to the future “and think about what the next 100 years will bring.” A portion of the evening was dedicated to recognizing outstanding achievement in 2017.

Among the recipients for annual awards was Hammock Coast Golf Trail, a coop of 12 Georgetown County golf courses, for their support and contributions to the community. It is estimated that collectively they give back over $500,000 per year in local support through the donation of their courses, merchandise, complimentary rounds, etc. in support of local and civic fund raising efforts. Executive Director John Rusher accepted the award on behalf of Hammock Coast Golf Trail, accompanied by board members Bob Seganti, Steve Mays, Bob Zuercher, Matt Amos and Kathi Grace.

Other award recipients included:

– Young Professional of the Year: Clay Hopkins, Hopkins Law
– Business of the Year: AGRU America Inc.
– Tourism Leadership Award: Rover Tours
