We asked Wachesaw Plantation East’s general manager, Rob Mosser, for his thoughts on the top three holes at the site of several LPGA Tour events. Here’s what he came back with.

No. 17 at Wachesaw Plantation EastNo. 8, 180-yard, par 3: With a large lake running from the tee box almost the entire way up to an elevated green, there’s not much mystery about the inspiration behind this hole’s nickname, “Watery Grave.” Three bunkers guard the right side of the putting surface, and trees guard the left side. Nowhere to hide here.

Mosser’s biggest advice here: whatever club you choose, just make sure you don’t come up short.

No. 17, 500-yard, par 5: This hole (pictured, right) is classic risk/reward, and at 470 yards from the middle tees it doesn’t play especially long. But a two-tiered fairway is enticing for long hitters who feel bold to go for the green in two. If you’re feeling daring, the best spot here is the right side of the fairway – but your margin for error is perilously small.

“There is a creek that runs in front (of the green),” Mosser said. “There is water on both sides of the fairway and the green also has a false front. If you don’t carry to the middle of the green you can roll back into the water.”

No. 18, 430-yard, par 4 (pictured, left): Wachesaw Plantation East’s most difficult. If you want par here, you’ll have to earn it. From the tee, the fairway looks much narrower than it actually is. You have to trust the fact that it widens once you’re about 220 yards from the tee; just don’t mistake that fact for a lack of difficulty on your approach.

“There are trees on the right, water on the left, and the green is surrounded by bunkers,” Mosser said. “It’s very challenging.”
